How We Work: From Concept to Final Illustration

Every project begins the same way: with listening. We start by understanding your goals, your audience, and the problem you need the illustration to solve. By asking thoughtful questions early, we can identify the most effective visual approach before any drawing begins. This initial analysis is one of the most important stages of the process and sets the foundation for a successful outcome.

From the outset, we work as part of your team. Our role goes beyond creating an attractive image—we shape and organize information so that it communicates clearly and supports your objectives. Once the direction is established, we move into concept development. This may involve quick exploratory sketches or more detailed drawings that break a process into clear, logical steps, depending on the needs of the project.

Next comes refinement. Through a series of proofs, we revise and adjust the sketches based on your feedback until the structure and content are exactly right. Only then do we move into color. Color renderings are submitted for final review and approval, ensuring accuracy and clarity before completion. Throughout every phase—from rough concepts to finished artwork—we maintain close communication so there are no surprises along the way.

Final illustrations are delivered electronically, either by email or via our FTP server. All files are high-resolution and prepared for print or digital use.

Pricing and Consultation

All illustrations are custom, and pricing depends on several key factors. These typically include the number of illustrations, the level of rendering required (such as black and white, grayscale, or full color), final size, and how the images will be used, distributed, and licensed. The more information we have at the start, the more precisely we can tailor an estimate to your needs.

If project requirements change—such as additional illustrations, expanded usage rights, or a higher level of rendering—we will discuss any impact on cost before proceeding. Transparency is central to how we work.

We invite you to get in touch for a free initial consultation. We are always happy to walk you through the process, answer questions, and discuss budget considerations. Whenever possible, we aim to align our services with your constraints while delivering clear, effective visual solutions. For additional information about usage rights and terminology, we recommend the Client Guide from the Association of Medical Illustrators.
